Spay/Neuter Program

Overview

The Humane Society works with a network of local veterinarians who have agreed to provide spay or neuter services for dogs and cats. The purpose of the program is to reduce the numbers of unwanted pets or stray animals in Anderson County and Oak Ridge only. The program is designed for those pet owners who genuinely require financial assistance in having their pets spayed or neutered. It is not intended to be a general no-cost service to anyone in the community.

How to Apply

To apply for this program, fill out this application and mail it to the following address:

The Humane Society, Inc.
PMB 366, 969 Oak Ridge Turnpike
Oak Ridge, TN 37830

This application can be obtained from the offices of any of our participating veterinarians in the community, from the Oak Ridge Animal Shelter, Anderson County Animal Control, or Clinton Animal Control, in PDF format from this web page, or from our Flea Market location.

How Does It Work

The instructions/rules for filling out the application are included here, as well as in the application. Your truthfulness in answering the questions in the application, particularly those of a financial nature is appreciated.

You may only choose a veterinarian from the following list of participating clinics/hospitals:

Clinics/Hospitals

Anderson County Animal Hospital, Norris, TN 494-8696
Animal Hospital of Anderson County, Clinton, TN 457-5626
Clinton Animal Hospital, Clinton, TN 457-5007

Norris Animal Hospital, Clinton, TN 494-5501
Oak Ridge Veterinary Hospital, Oak Ridge, TN 483-6614
Tri-County Small Animal Hospital, Oliver Springs, TN 435-1374

Once your application is received, it will be reviewed and, if approved, you will be sent a Certificate of Acceptance which must be given to the chosen veterinarian prior to the date the surgery is performed.

The Certificate of Acceptance will cover the cost of spay or neuter. It will also cover the cost of shots required at the time of surgery (Rabies, DHLPP and Bordetella for dogs, Rabies and FVRCP for cats). Pet owners are responsible for any additional unauthorized services.

Applications are generally approved as received based on the need as identified on the form. Approval may take some time as it is performed by volunteers. Please be patient; you should receive an answer within 30 days.

Once you have selected a veterinarian and the Certificate of Acceptance has been issued, you cannot swap clinics. Failing to use the Veterinarian on the Certificate will relieve The Humane Society of any obligation to pay the bill. The pet owner will then become responsible for the debt.
